Origami cat by Roman Diaz

Day 136 - Origami cat by Roman Diaz

Model : Origami cat by Roman Diaz
Design : Roman Diaz
Complexity : Difficult
Folding Instruction
    Diagram : www.origamichile.cl
    Video : Benjingling
Paper : Rectangle Half of 4.5 Inches square

This model needs a rectangle to start with.I found diagram as well as video instruction for the model but I found the diagram better. I know its sounds strange when I say diagram is better because I never liked following the diagrams, but this time I found the diagram easier.

After few failed attempts on folding the model I was somewhat successful with the model. My model doesnot stand properly though it should have. Also I could not get the finer details properly like whiskers though the cheeks came out properly and many more finer details.
One of the failed attempts
Finally something near abt the model.I am exhausted ! Uff... I am not trying any more kitty.

Origami cat by Gilad Aharoni

Day 135 - Origami cat by Gilad Aharoni

Model : Origami cat by Gilad Aharoni
Design : Gilad Aharoni
Complexity : Medium
Folding Instruction
    Diagram : www.Giladorigami.com
    Video : Marigami
Paper : 4.5 Inches

I tried following the diagram but was lost midway. It seems I am really bad at following diagrams so I searched for the video instructions and luckily I found one on Marigami's channel on YouTube.

After trying so many cute cats this one does not look so cute .I found the cat face to be the toughest in the whole model, especially while making the eyes and nose.

One should start with a big paper else its really difficult to make the face.

Origami Cat - 3

Day 134 - Origami Cat-3

Model : Origami Cat-3
Complexity : Simple
Folding Instruction
    Video : About.com
Paper : 1/4 of 3*3 Inch one side coloured square paper . 2 square papers

It can be treated as a 2D as well as 3D model as it can stand too. It requires 2 squares, one each for head and body. You can assemble using glue or just tuck the body part into the pocket created in the head even though that would be very frail assembly but that's an option.

Good model for card making.

Origami Cat-2

Day 133 - Origami Cat-2

Model : Origami Cat-2
Complexity : Simple
Folding Instruction
    Photo Instructions : Card Making @ CircleOfCrafters.com
Paper : 3*3 Inch one side coloured square paper . 3 square papers

It's turning out to be a origami cat week, though I didn't search the models intentionally but found them interesting and moreover easy.

It's a 2D model. I stumbled upon this cat model on a card making site called Card Making @ CircleOfCrafters.com.This cat requires 3 square papers .one each for face, body and tail.
The units are to be assembled using glue.

Origami Cat-1

Day 132 - Origami Cat-1

Model : Origami Cat-1
Design : Hiroaki Takai
Complexity : Simple
Folding Instruction
Diagram : Diagramed by Hiroaki Takai
Paper : Post-it notes.Rectangle

This is a cute little cat .I traced this model from the website www.origamispirit.com.This model is created by Hiroaki Takai but the page has 2 little cat models of which one is modified form of the model by Hirokai.I could fold only the one diagrammed by Hiroaki as the other one does not have a diagram there nor do I have that much imagination to manipulate and create it.

This model needs a rectangle. You can get that by dividing your regular square in half. Preferable to use both side same coloured paper for the model. One needs to be careful while shaping the ears of the cat else its an easy model.

Origami Cat Nap

Day 131 - Origami Cat Nap

Model : Origami Cat Nap
Design : Philip Schulz
Complexity : Medium
Folding Instruction
Diagram : Diagramed by Philip Schulz
Paper : 4.5 Inches

Origami Cat nap is based on Origami fish base.As I am really bad at following diagrams only I serached for video instructions and found none .Most of the pplaces where I found the diagram it was incomplete.
It was in origami.happymagpie.com that I found the complete diagram.

Somehow I managed following the diagram( even though the author is so clear in the diagram ) and made my cute little cat nap model. As the paper I choose was too stiff the cats tail kept on going away from the intended position so I cheated a little and used glue to keep it in place :D.

Here's my cat nap model.

Origami cat

Day 130 - Origami Cat

Model : Origami Cat
Complexity : Medium
Folding Instruction
    Diagram : www.giladorigami.com
    Video : Super1600
Paper : 3*3 Inch one side coloured square paper

This one is simple only for the part where you crease - open and refold to get the body and the tail.

I found the instructionson youtube on a channel by super1600.The video instructions are good to follow but one needs to be really careful and make crisp folds to get the exact model also certain places the folds dont seem clear as they are very small folds and the paper colour is reflecting making it tough to understand the fold.

Origami Camel-1

Day 129 - Origami Camel - 1

Model : Origami Camel
Design : Chiyo Araki
Complexity : Medium
Folding Instruction
    Video : Happypuppytruffles
Paper : 3*3 Inch one side coloured square paper

This camel start with origami bird base. The difficult part is the hind legs coz you keep on making small folds so I would suggest to start with a bigger square for beginners else you may end up with a trash.Otherwise its a pretty simple model.

Day 128 - Origami Fancy Horse

Model : Origami Fancy Horse
Design : Japanese Origami Society
Complexity : Simple
Folding Instruction
    Video : Happypuppytruffles
Paper : 3*3 Inch one side coloured square paper

This one is a kirigami model as one needs to cut to get the legs of the horse. You need to start with origami bird base and proceed by cutting to get the legs .Very few and simple steps and the final product is nice.

Origami Giraffe

Day 116 - Origami Giraffe

Model : Origami Giraffe
Design : Traditional
Complexity : Simple
Folding Instruction
    Diagram : www.laurenstringer.com
    Video : Tavin
Book : Super Quick Origami Animals by Nick Robinson
Paper : 3*3 Inch one side coloured square paper

This is a traditional origami model. It starts with origami bird base.I followed the video on Tavin's Channel This video is of 8 minutes but the actually folding after the bird base starts at 2.50 minutes and ends by 5.20 minutes. It's a nice tutorial and easy to follow.

The final model had pointed face and pointed legs which I have squared a bit because I thought it would look better.

Origami Elephant

Day 115 - Origami Elephant

Model : Origami Elephant
Complexity : Simple
Folding Instruction
    Video : Tavin
Paper : 4.5 Inches

I found a lot of origami elephant models on internet. Some were simple and some complex.Simple once seemed too abstract and for the complex I wasn't in a mood to try out. Finally I found this model on Tavin15's channel on youtube.

This is easier than others but not abstract and is a 3D model.Use a thicker paper than usual but not very thick paper as the final intricate folds become tougher.

While folding the legs be bit careful to keep the hind and fore legs in the same level.

Origami Sheep

Day 112 - Origami Sheep

Model : Origami Sheep
Design By : Traditional
Complexity : Simple
Folding Instruction
Diagram : Origami Club - Sheep
Animation : Origami Club - Sheep Animation
    Video : Japonyol
Paper : 3*3 Inch 1 side coloured square paper

This model would look best with the standard origami paper one side coloured and one side white. You would need a pen to draw the eyes and the nose.

This is a 2D model but it can stand if you slightly stretch open the first two legs.

Origami Turtle

Day 105 - Origami Turtle

Model : Origami Turtle
Design By : Traditional
Complexity : Medium
Folding Instruction
    Diagram : The Paper Fold
    Video : origamiinstructions.blogspot.com
Paper : 3*3 Inch one side coloured square paper

This is a traditional origami turtle. The final model looks somewhat similar to Origami Chubby sparrow but it's not the same.

I found the diagrams bit tricky but the video instructions are useful. The tough part is where you pull the legs to puff the body of the turtle. One needs to be really careful not to rip the paper.

The video uses a patterned paper for the turtle which makes the turtle turn out really nice.

If you are searching for similar patterned paper then may be you can check this etsy shop called origamibijou or if you want the turtle and dont want to fold them then you may purchase them from etsy shop by prettymuchdana.

Origami Camel

Day 86 - Origami Camel

Origami camel starts with a square piece of paper. You can use both one side coloured or double side coloured paper. The folds do not expose the other side so I would suggest to use a one side coloured paper.

The folds are almost similar to origami crane except that the beak is folded such that it become face and jaw and the tail into a hind limb .the other 2 limbs are created by folding the wings down ( before that fold the wings inwards to narrow it.

The hump is the same as the middle portion or the body part of the origami crane.

Obviously it starts with origami bird base.

Folding instructions are available at origami-club.It has both folding instruction as well as animation.

Origami chicken born from egg

Day 73 - Origami chicken born from egg

Origami Chicken born from egg model is a cute little model. It is quite simple 2D model. It starts with a square base and has a few simple folds. Its perfect for easter greeting card making.

I have used a 3*3 inch one side yellow and one side white square paper.

Origami Dragon

Day 32 - Origami Dragon

Take a really big paper to start with coz there are so many folds.Just kidding but yes its better to start with a bigger paper and yes a lot of patience.

I have taken a green paper of size 5 7/8 inches.Start with the origami bird base and follow the instructions really carefully in sequence dont skip a single step( I usually dont see the steps properly).

Here it is.

Does the beak look like broken instead of being fire and ferocious :P .

There a few intricate fold to give the dragon a furious look but if its a small paper the intricate parts folding becomes really tough.

Origami Dinosaur

Day 20 – Origami Dinosaur

Today I am folding an origami dinosaur. The origami Dinosaur design by Stephen O’Hanlon and the original diagram is at fishgoth.com.I found the instruction at Origami-Instructions.com.

I started with an origami 5 7/8” inch green square origami paper. It starts with a bird base but as you proceed you will find certain folds though are simple are tough to fold either due to too many pieces fold together or reversing, but yet its really nice model and easy enough to fold.

I have given my Dino a little twist at the legs ,I mean I have folded the legs inside instead of outside as the Dino was not standing properly( always my animal folds have this problem). So now it stands without support. You can draw eyes etc on it but I felt it was still good without drawing (Lazy me!)

Origami Rabbit 2

Day 19 - Origami Rabbit 2

Another origami rabbit today. This is bit tougher than the previous one .

In the diagram and animation the rabbit seemed so simple and cute so I went ahead with the 3*3 inch one side coloured pick origami paper.First few folds went fine and I thought it would go well but some where I lost in between and folded it in such a way that the ears of the rabbit were in the front and the portion which had to become face went back.I tried reversing the folds and the face portion came in front but the overall rabbit was messed up.Though the final structure looked somewhat like the rabbit in the instruction but all the folds were visible and the worst it was not standing.

The rabbit seemed like some other animal and the tail, it should have been cute but mine seemed like some one forgot to  fold the piece of peering paper.

But all said and sone I have made the rabbit. If you are wondering how it stands in the picture ,its no miracle I have glued it to the base to make it stand  :)

Origami Rabbit

Day 18 - Origami Rabbit

Hmmm.... don't know if this actually resembles rabbit :). It is a simple 3 D model. To me it seemed more like an abstract 3D rabbit.

I started with a white 3"*3" inch paper, scissors and a pen.Scissors to cut and bring out the ears.So you can say its Kirigami rather than pur origami .Pen is required to draw the eyes of the rabbit.

Here it stands

Traditional Origami Frog

Day 6 - Frog

Today I tried with the origami frog using a dark green origami paper. The frog turned out pretty good. The design/instruction suggests that the frog can be blown but mine had some technical issue :P.It didnt hold air.

The frog instruction has first half similar to crane folding.

Here is my frog below:-

You can also draw eyes on the frog.
