Origami Alexander Aztec butterfly - Design by Michael LaFosse

Day 154 - Origami Alexander Aztec butterfly - Design by Michael LaFosse

Model : Origami Alexander Aztec butterfly
Design : Michael LaFosse
Complexity : Medium
Folding Instruction
    Book : Advanced Origami
    Video : Part 1 Part 2 by elsix2006
Paper : 9*9 inch one side coloured paper.

Another one of the Michael Lafosse butterflies. This one is really nice to look at with the zigzag pattern on the wings this pattern makes it look complicated too,but the fact is its not that complicated. At least you feel so once you have folded Alexander swallowtail Butterfly and Alice Gray Butterfly.

Alexander Aztec Butterfly is a mix of both the above butterflies. It starts with similar folds as the Alice Gray butterfly.

Few Notes:-
  • Start with a fairly large paper for the first time.
  • The butterfly looks better with contrast coloured paper .
  •  I felt the folding for the body of the butterfly are similar to Alice Gray Butterfly and the video by Orgamiancy for the same part s much clearer to understand.
  • The Zigzag on the wings though look so complex but are actually easy.
  • The part where you have to pull the paper in the upper wing for shaping it take care not to damage the model.

Origami Alice Gray Butterfly - Design by Michael LaFosse

Day 153 - Origami Alice Gray Butterfly - Design by Michael LaFosse

Model : Origami Alice Gray Butterfly
Design : Michael LaFosse
Complexity : Medium
Folding Instruction
Diagram : Diagram by J.C Nolan
    Book : Advanced Origami
    Video : Origamiancy
Paper : 9*9 inch one side coloured paper.

Earlier I had tried Michael LaFosse's Alexandar swallowtail butterfly .The instruction for this butterfly was available on the website by Michael LaFosse.

There were many more wonderful butterflies modeled by Michael Lafosse which I wanted to fold but could not find the instruction online neither I am that good at following the diagrams. Finally after one and a half years of folding Alexander swallowtail butterfly I found this video on YouTube by origamiancy for the model Alice Gray Butterfly by Michael Lafosse. The video was up by 2009 and I found it now that show how good I am at searching things on internet.

The instructions are quite clear. One thing to take care of ,is the instructions in the video starts with colour side up but if you want your butterfly to be colourful then start with White side up.

By the time your are finished the paper in the middle forming the body of the butterfly becomes so thick that its difficult to make further folds and it may rip so take care while folding it.

Origami Napkin butterfly

Day 80- Origami Napkin butterfly

Another one of the butterfly models.I found this model on youtube. There is a wonderful video tutorial by Barbabellaatje on the channel "How to make these !!".

Its easy model and I got it in first try.You can start with big or small piece of paper.

It needs a square piece of paper.I have used a one side coloured 3*3 inch paper for the model.

The wings of the butterfly can have more pleates but I have done it with minimum pleates you can try with more pleates. The video explains how to have 4 or 8 pleates of more..

Origami Butterfly - 1

Day 68 - Origami butterfly - 1

This week I don't have a specific theme.I am going to pick anything interesting.

Origami butterfly - 1 ,I have named it so coz I don't know the actual name . I found the model on Joost Langeveld Origami Page and it was named as origami butterfly there.

The model starts with bird base folds. The difficult part is the antenna of the butterfly. The fold isn't that clear which makes it fold further but if your try 2-3 times you will be able understand it. Even though the model is not that tough I would suggest to start with a bigger paper ,so that its easier to understand the folds.

To me this model looks more like a moth than a butterfly but nevertheless its a good one to try your hands on.

Origami Butterfly Borboleta de Origami

Day30 - Origami Butterfly Borboleta de Origami

A butterfly today. After a long time I am folding a butterfly. Long back I had folded a series of butterfly I had seen this model then but didn’t find the instructions. It seemed to be too tough but beautiful.

Actually the model is not that tough as it may seem to its quite easy.

There were a few folds mentioned in the video which I felt were arbitarly done to shape up couldn’t make out the symmetry or logic of it.

It needs half of a square paper to start with.

Another simple butterfly model

Butterfly Model 3:-

This is a simple butterfly model widely available on internet.I have used a Post-it note of neon colours to create the butterfly. As the paper is bit thick the butterfly didnt turn up well.Soon I would post a better butterfly :).

Simple Origami paper sheets can be used for the model.Paper can be both side coloured or single side coloured.

Simple butterfly

This month I have decided to make origami butterfly.I started searching the internet for simple butterfly instruction .

Butterfly Model 1:-
The simplest butterfly design which I found was on a website dedicated to crafts Enchanted Learning .This design seemed to be too kiddish (NOM) for me.Another site for the instruction of the same model origami-instructions

Butterfly Model 2:-
I found another design on Create with me blogspot. This seemed 1 up in the difficulty level.

This Origami Butterfly design was created by Ralph Matthews from England. It is just one of the many Origami projects in the book called Minigami by Gay Merrill Gross published by Firefly books.

Its cute, easy and fast. This butterfly requires a rectangular sheet instead of a square sheet.I used a normal origami paper (one side white and one side colour). The butterfly looks cute when its small in size.
