Origami Cherry Blossom |
Recently when I again stumbled upon the page I found another comment pointing to blog Paperkawaii .This has the diagrams of the flower. As I am really poor in following diagrams and haven't folded a single thing for ages , it took me long to understand the basic folds.
After two failed attempts and search for instruction video I found this photo instruction of a variation called Clematis having 7 petals by Yamaguchi Makoto.
The Origami Cherry Blossom is a modular structure with 5 petals. Each unit is folded separately and can be assembled without glue as the units have interlocking system.Though the model looks somewhat flat( at least I thought so)it is bit elevated.

Another view of the flower |
I have used glue to assemble as my units weren't interlocking properly. The final touch I have curled the petals.
Its better to use origami paper than other varieties as thinner paper give a better look.

Origami rose - 1
Day 146 - Origami Rose - 1
One more of the roses. As I was never so successful with the standard rose models I always try to make some different formats of rose like the modular ones.
This is a modular rose with 8 units made of square paper. The units are interlocked by the inbuilt pockets
The units need the simple kite base just that the left flap is folded back.Use both side same coloured paper.3 units are first arranged to make the bud and the rest 5 to make the outer circle. The petals are bit rolled to give them the flower look.

Origami Rose cube
Day 124,125 - Origami Rose cube
This is an interesting model made out of 6 units ,3 units of each colour. The units are assembled by interlocking. It is a cube which can be transformed into a rose with few simple steps, thus making the model interesting.
Though it's a simple model it took me a lot of time to understand it and give it shape.First suggestion is to use a both side same coloured square paper. If the paper is one side coloured then the white side would get exposed as below.
Then I tried with post-it notes here's the result.
Though it's not perfect it's somewhat OK I believe.

Some important points to take care of :-
- Be patient while folding the units and follow the video carefully. I skipped a few steps which led to re folding.
- The above video uses a double side same coloured paper so one needs to follow the steps carefully.
- The Green/leaves modules are a bit differently folded as compared to the red once.
- once you finish a module make sure you have 2 pockets. This is necessary for the final cube formation.
- While opening the cube to metamorphoses to rose be careful not to rip it.you will have to open 2 rounds to get the final model.

Origami 5 petal lily
Day 107 - Origami 5 Petal Lily
One more of the lily patterns.I have tried the traditional lily,3 petal lily, five petal lily out of pentagon .This one is a 5 petal lily out of square instead of pentagon.
Though the basic steps are almost the same but there is a little variation which brings out the 5th petal .I would suggest to use both side coloured paper instead of the one side coloured paper as the fifth petal exposes the other side which you can see in the flower I have folded.
The fold towards the end when you shape the flower to open it is bit tough and if you don't do it carefully it rips (as mine has ripped a bit) else till you bring out the fifth petal it is pretty much easy.

Origami Anchusa (Italian Bugloss)
Day 106 - Origami Anchusa (Italian Bugloss)
Anchusa is a small radially symmetrical flower, sapphire blue in colour and it retains color a long time. The plants show numerous flowers with 5 sepals, united at their bases, and 5 petals forming a narrow tube facing upwards. The flowers grow in several axillary cymes, simple or branched, or are clustered at the end. (Source : Wikipedia)
The Origami Anchusa is 4 petaled and isn't tubular, but still it's a cute little flower. It is made out of square piece of paper.A patterened paper would give better flower I believe yet the normal one side coloured paper isnt that bad either.Though the initial folds are easy but the folds towards the end where you finally give shape to flower petals are clumsy.I got confused towards the end.I felt the video could have explained it bit better.

Origami carnation
Day 102 - Origami Carnation
Origami carnation is simple on complexity level and is similar to origami buttonhole flower except the last step where you fold the petal tips in exposing the otherside of the paper else I feel it's the same.
I found this model on the youtube channel by Happypuppytruffles. Incidently she too is folding an origami model a day so going forward I think I would be following a few of her models here.

Origami Cherry Blossom
Day 90 - Origami Cherry Blossom
This is a kirigami model rather than an origami model.Basically the flower needs a pentagon to start with. The instructions on the Origami-club starts with a square piece of paper.
You need to fold the square to get a pentagon and on the folds to get the pentagon you will have to cut it into the flower shape.
It's a good one for greetings or decorations. The instruction on origami club also speaks of folding branch for the cherry blossoms.

Origami Poinsettia
Day 88 - Origami Poinsettia

Origami Poinsettia is a modular flower but its not pure origami as it needs glue to put the petals together so also the leaves.
This model requires three units for the flower and three units for the base leaves.I have used 3*3 inch light green square papers for the leaves units and 1/4th of 3*3 inch square one side red coloured paper for the units of the flower.
Well I suppose a bit bigger squares for the units of the flower would have been better for the size of the leaves I have made.
It's really simple and it makes a nice flower for the cards.
I suppose of the various origami poinsettia models available this is one of the simplest .

Origami five petal lily
Day 84 - Origami five petal lily
After learning how to get the pentagon from a square piece paper I thought of trying this 5 petal lily.I had stumbled upon this instruction long back but was not able to try it becuase I didn't know how to get the pentagon out of square actually I was lazy to make the pentagon.
I found this instruction on the blog Dream Your Wonders by Adam. This blog has some more wonderful flower folding instructions based on pentagon.
The model starts with a pentagon. The folds are similar to origami lily variation folds.
I have used a Origami sheets of 4.5 Inches Square
to get the pentagon. It's normal origami paper.

Origami Azalea
Day 46 - Origami Azalea

Origami Azalea is a model by Kalei Anne Lundberg. The design was inspired by the George Rhoads Double Bird Base diagramed in Neal Elias’ Miscellaneous Folds I.
I felt this is one of the difficult models. It needs 2x1 piece of paper.
It took me long time to understand and fold it.The video my Mari Michaelis on youtube is really useful and easy to follow. The video is in 2 parts. You can find them below.
Part 1:-
Part 2:-
I would suggest to start with a big paper.Take half of the paper for the flower and 1/4th of the other half for stamen. It goes well with both double side colored or single side coloured paper.
My flower looks somewhat near to the actual model even though not exact.
You can find the diagram at origami-resource-center.

Origami 4 Leafed Buttonhole flower
Day 45 - Origami 4 Leafed Buttonhole flower
Today it is a 4-leafed Buttonhole flower.Model is created by Paul Jackson.
This buttonhole flower looks best when the paper is the same color on both sides. If you use origami paper that is white on one side and colored on the other, be sure to fold it so that the color side is inside the folds - the color will be visible only at the final step of the project.
I came across this model while seraching for the base units of a kusuduma .Initial try with the flower was diaster as i couldnot make out the folds direction properly, even though it is such a easy fold I kept on messing with it.
But trust me its really easy fold...
Folding Instructions:-
Step 1:-
If you are using origami paper that is white on one side, start with the white side facing up.
Step 2:-
Fold the paper along the diagonals
Step 3:-
Collapse the paper into a waterbomb base. To do this, bring the top of the paper down towards the bottom while pushing the sides inwards.
Step 5:-
Rotate Triangle upside down

Origami Day Lily
Day 44 - Origami Day Lily
The day lily folds are not completely similar to the traditional lily but at one stage you find a few similarity. The folds start with arbitary folding which is one thing I didnt like cause one maynot be able to decide well. But that is the beauty of art not everything is predefined . you need to experiment to get something new.
You can take both one side or double side colored paper depending on your likings as both will do good. Its an easy and neat model but I would suggest you start with a big paper first time as you may find it bit tough to fold the intricate small folds at one stage.

Origami Tulip 2
Day 43 - Origami Tulip 2
It is another version of origami tulip and yes it does not need blowing so am quiet happy with the model. It just needs folding ....
Paper choice:- Better to take double side coloured paper as when you open both the sides are visible but here I have used a 3*3 Inch one side colored paper.
Things to take care while folding... Nothing specific.

Day 42 - Origami Tulip
This is a traditional origami tulip. The model goes well with one side colored paper too as the folds donot expose the other side.
Its starts with a waterbomb base with hardly 5 to six steps but you need to watch out while inflating the flower and opening the petals.
My tulip got torn while opening the flower.

Origami 8 Petal flower
Day 41 - Origami 8 Petal flower
This week I would be trying origami flowers. So starting today I have Origami 8 Petal flower. Actually I had seen this model long back and don't remember the actual name of the flower.
This model starts with Origami bird base. It is not pure origami. You can say its kirigami as it involves cutting at one stage.
It is advisable to use a two side colored paper ( both side having same color). If you are using one side coloured paper then make sure the color appears on the petal that is to say the folding should be i such a way that u end up with colored petals.
I have used neon post-it papers for the model.
As I said earlier that I have seen this origami model long back ,I have lost the link where I found it.So for the instruction I have tried to put up some photo instructions myself .as its my first time for instructions sorry for any inconvenience you may face.
Photo Instructions:-
Take a square piece of paper with colored side up.

Step 1:-Fold it along the diagonal to get a triangle shape as below.

Step 2-Join the two vertices of the triangle

Step 3-Bring the top flap over right and open the paper slightly .squash fold it.

step 4 Flip the paper over and repeat step 3 on the other side to get the square base.

Step 5:-Pull the 2 corners to the middle and fold as shown below

Step 6:- fold the top vertice as show below

Step 7: open the fold and lift the bottomcorner upwards as shown and fold along the crease line to get a triangle

Step 8 : - Repeat steps 5,6 and 7 on the other side.This is a bird base.

Step 9 :- fold all the flaps up

Step 10:- pull one of the triangular flap as shown.cut it along the middle crease up and fold it along the vertex.

Step 11: Repeat step 10 for all the flaps.

Step 12:- Squash the petals to get the flower.
