Yamaha Motors and Origami

Yamaha motors a name known for its bikes. It's a Japanese Company.Broadly classifing ,there product profile includes motorcycles , marine products ,power products etc....

By now you must be wondering why am I writing about a motor industry in a crafts blog that to a paper folding art blog.Paper is so delicate and the company has nothing to do with such things. So too I thought when I first time heard of the origami page in Yamaha Motors website from someone.

It didn't fit in ,"Motor company and origami".But it's true Yamaha Motors website has a section for origami. Here you can find many models of animals, insects and the best part yamaha bikes.

The site provides printable models, technique to fold the model and yes videos to guide you.I haven't yet tried as I don't have a printer but soon I will also make a few of them.

Though I dont know actually why Yamaha motors has origami section but I believe its because both Yamaha Motors and Origami Art are Japanese.

Modular Origami - Swan

What is modular Origami?

Modular origami, or unit origami, is a paper folding technique which uses multiple sheets of paper to create a larger and more complex structure. Each individual sheet of paper is folded into a module, or unit, and then modules are assembled into an integrated flat shape or three-dimensional structure by inserting flaps into pockets created by the folding process. These insertions create tension or friction that holds the model together.

Swan created with modular origami

Traditional modular origami swan consists of about 500 pieces of small units. These are triangular units which can be interlocked and create a beautiful swan.Modular origami swan creation is a tedious work.

You need enough time and ofcourse a lot of patience to create the structure as each of the 500 pieces needs to be folded perfectly.

Senbazuru

The common question people ask after creating thousand paper cranes is

"What to do with these thousand paper cranes?"

These are few suggestions.

1.You can send the thousand cranes to the Children's Monument in Hiroshima's Peace Park, string them on garlands of 100 cranes each, and mail them to

Office of the Mayor
City of Hiroshima
6-34 Kokutaiji-Machi
1 Chome Naka-ku
Hiroshima 730
Japan.

2.Paste them on Cards and envelopes with the peace message. Thus spearding the peace message.

3.If your Orizuru(paper crane) is quite tiny you can paste it on your visiting cards.

4.Make visiting cards out of your Paper crane by writing address on its wings.Well when your give such a visiting card its like spreading of peace message + your skill showchase + ofcousre your address.:

5.String them and hang them in your room.

6.You can make fancy ornaments from them too.
